Herding Cats

Yep! That’s what it looked like today at Bug Light Park when Michael Lichter was organizing all the Cannonballers and their bikes for the panoramic photo. But he had the patience of Job and …. mission accomplished, finally! He also had to deal with all the support crew spectators, regular tourists and all those who rode out to see the spectacle after reading about it in the morning paper. You learn something new everyday

Did you know that you’re supposed to lull a lobster to sleep before you stick him in the pot? Something new we learned yesterday. Here’s Bruce trying his hand at it! What’s for dinner? And so it begins

We arrived late this afternoon, found a perfect spot to set up our rolling Indian shop and unloaded our bikes The Pride Runner is officially at the start and looking pretty spiffy! Once the doors were opened, so was the repair shop. So, #88 Doug Wothke pulled up his 101 for a little tweaking on his return oil system on his 28 101. Shake Down Riding

We spent Saturday in the cool early morning air completing some shake down miles. It let the “Pride Runner” ease into her stride and break in the motor at a slow pace. She still needs to stretch her legs some more and probably won’t see her peak performance until about day three or four of the Cannonball. School’s In Session

Steve took the finished Pride Runner to school last Thursday and spent the day visiting Mr. Groves’ 7th grade US Geography classes. The students were shocked to see the completed bike and couldn’t believe that Steve had built it from the pile of parts that he had taken in last fall and showed them. The Pride Runner is up and going after two weeks of off and on struggles with engine timing. We discovered that the newest part on our antique motor was at fault! Addiction

Time to celebrate! They made it to Carlsbad!! Grand Canyon ….. Where?

Day 12 was to take the guys in the west entrance to the Grand Canyon National Park and out the south entrance as part of the day’s route. As Steve put it, we spent $25 and saw nothing (even though we’ve been there a couple times). He and the boys had been looking forward to enjoying it on their bikes!
